“Let’s be Biblical,” by Kevan Myers

I felt led by the Spirit to write this article in response to a video clip sent to me by a good friend.
The said clip claimed that it is not right or godly to be biblical, because Jesus was not biblical, and that the Bible is not “truth,” but rather only a “book with truth written into it.” This implies that the Scriptures only “contain” the truth, are not wholly the truth. But I would take the word of God over the word of man.

I would submit that Jesus countered this in His prayer to God the Father,“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth” (John 17:17). I was asked to write, confirming that the Bible is the word of God and that living biblically is right. This should be the easiest thing in the world. God is very clear in the Scriptures when He is speaking of the written word, and when He means the living Word.

First-
Reading John 1, we find that Jesus is the Word, the Son of God, that all things
were made by Him, and that He was made flesh to be able to die for the sins of
the world. Anyone who will believe on His name shall be saved. When the
Scripture is speaking of Jesus as the Word, the word “Word” is capitalized.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1).

“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).

“For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one” (I John 5:7).

Second-
When the “word of God” is not capitalized, then it is speaking of the Scriptures,
the written word. Take a look at one of my favorite Psalms. I only have 150
favorite Psalms. Psalm 119 has 176 verses, and nearly every verse contains at
least one word describing the Scriptures. Here is a sample list of the words:
law, testimonies, statutes, commandments, judgments, precepts, word…

“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee” (Psalm 119:11).

“Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth forever” (Psalm 119:160).

“My tongue shall speak of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteous” (Psalm 119:172).

After reading the Bible, there should be no doubt to any honest person that the written
word of God is the Scriptures, the Holy Bible. The person who denies this most likely
has an ulterior motive for such a denial.

Now, concerning the video sent to me, I find that arguing with a fool is usually
not a wise course: “If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or
laugh, there is no rest”
(Proverbs 29:9). His statements are such that “even a babe
in religion should be able to answer a hundred such questions” as Christian in
Pilgrim’s Progress told Byway and his fellows.

However, it is good to have an answer for those who may wonder at his words,
thinking them unanswerable. So I put my hand to further add to the brethren’s
ammunition supply. I would say that there are MANY things wrong both with the man’s
premise and his arguments. But let us take 3 points, to establish the fact of existing
problems with the whole.

Point ONE
The man in the clip claims that Jesus was not biblical. Yet, Jesus said that He came to
fulfill the law (Matthew 5:17). Read through Matthew, for instance, and you will
find numerous times that it speaks of how the Scripture was fulfilled in His life.
Here are a number of them:
*Born of a virgin – Isaiah 7:14 = Matthew 1:22-23
*Born in Bethlehem – Micah 5:2 = Matthew 2:5-6
*Time in Egypt, coming out of = Hosea 11:1, Matthew 2:15
*Weeping for children in His time – Jeremiah 40:1 = Matthew 2:17-18
*Called a Nazarene – Isaiah 11:1; Jeremiah 23:5; 33:15; Zechariah 3:8; 6:12 = Matthew 2:23
*Healing sicknesses – Isaiah 53:4 = Matthew 8:17
*The Gentiles would trust in Him – Isaiah 42:1 = Matthew 12:21
*Betrayed for 30 pieces of silver – Zechariah 11:13 = Matthew 27:9-10
*Would be crucified – Psalm 22:16 = Matthew 27:26

When Philip found Nathaniel, he told him about Jesus: “Philip findeth
Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and
the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph”
(John 1:45). How did Philip
recognize Him as the Messiah? Philip realized who He was because Philip knew the Scriptures.

He quoted Psalm 22:1 while on the cross = Matthew 27:46. While on the cross also He said He was thirsty, so that they would give Him vinegar
to drink, fulfilling Psalm 91:21. “After this, Jesus knowing that all things were accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst” (John 19:28). He did this so that the prophecy would be fulfilled.

In turn, I would ask, “In what ways was Jesus NOT biblical?”
When He was tempted, He said, “It is written,” and quoted Scripture (Matthew 4:4,7,10).
When he was questioned and examined of the scribes, Pharisees, etc., he answered with Scripture (Matthew Mark 10:5-9; 12:26,36, Luke 10:26).

Consider that in the verse below, Jesus rebuked the Sadducees, not for being biblical, but for
NOT knowing the Scriptures!
“And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not
the Scripture, nor the power of God”
(Mark 12:24).

Behold also how many times it is recorded that Jesus asked, “Have ye not read?”
Matthew 12:3,5; 19:4; 22:31; Mark 12:10,26; 6:3 = Seven times in the Gospels!

When Jesus spoke with the two on the way to Emmaus, He revealed the truth to them by opening

and expounding the Scriptures. Wouldn’t that have been something to hear? Jesus preaching Jesus! “And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.” (Luke 24:27).

Later Jesus did the same for the rest of the disciples.
“And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet
with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses,
and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.”
(Luke 24:44).

Paul declared that Christ’s work of salvation was just exactly what the Scriptures had foretold:
“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to thcriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the Scriptures:” (I Corinthians 15:3-4).

The man in the clip claims that since not all that Jesus said and did is recorded for us in the Bible,
we do not have to go by what the Bible says. These are two verses that he
believes supports this argument:
“And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples,
which are not written in this book:”
(John 20:30).
“And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which,
if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not
contain the books that should be written. Amen”
(John 21:25).

But let us consider that…
1. God chose to preserve THESE words for us, that we may know what is true. See John 20:31-
“But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God;
and that believing ye might have life through His name.”

2. That nothing of the other things which Jesus did or said would contradict or void these
recorded things. “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever” (Hebrews 13:8).
3. That nothing Jesus said or did would contradict or violate the volume of the Book. And the very fact that God chose to preserve THESE words, shows us that these were the ones He wanted us to have and know.

Point TWO
The man in the clip claims that because the religious leaders (scribes, Pharisees, lawyers, etc.)
were biblical, they hated and killed Jesus. But the fact is that those who rejected the Christ were NOT biblical!
Here the man in the clip makes a misleading remark: He quotes Jesus as rebuking the Jews for going by the Scriptures. These are the man’s words-
“You search the scriptures because in there you want to find eternal life, but
you would not come to me and have life”

But if you watch it again, it seems that he gives but a part of John 5:39, which
says in its entirety: “Search the Scriptures; for in them ye think ye have
eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.”

Jesus was not telling the Jews that they were searching the Scriptures.
He was not getting after them for searching the Scriptures.
He was COMMANDING them TO search the Scriptures!

It should be pointed out that there are at least 3 points that demonstrate that the
“religious leaders” were not biblical:

1. They taught the traditions of man instead of the commandments of God:
“…But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men”
(Matthew 15:1-9).
“Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”
(Mark 7:7).
When you read these two parallel passages, you find that the Pharisees and others were
putting the traditions of the elders before the commandments of God. Their keeping of
Corban for instance allowed a man to keep from supporting his aged parents, thus breaking
at least two of the 10 commandments: “Honor thy father and thy mother,” and “thou shalt
not steal.”
That is not biblical.

2. They must not have truly believed Moses, or they would have believed on Jesus:
“For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me” (John 5:46).
So if they rejected Jesus, it follows that they rejected the Scriptures that spoke of Him. How is that being biblical?
“Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he
said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they
be persuaded, though one rose from the dead”
(Luke 16:29-31).

3. Some of the religious leaders did eventually believe and follow Jesus Christ, such
as Nicodemas and Joseph of Arimathaea. Many others realized Who He was and believed
He was the promised Messiah of the Scriptures, but did not take Him as their personal
Saviour because they loved the esteem of men more than they loved God. Therefore they
broke the greatest commandment: “And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine
heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might”
(Deuteronomy 6:5). How can
that make them “biblical”?
“Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the
Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:
For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God”
(John 12:43-44).

Point THREE
This man says that you should only go to God for true wisdom, citing James 1:5. This is so. The Lord is
the only true source of wisdom. No doubt about it.
However, God the Holy Spirit teaches us through the word of God and never teaches
anything contrary to the volume of the Book. Therefore, if you feel led to do something that
is contrary to the Bible’s precepts and principles, you can know that it isn’t the Holy Spirit.

The Spirit has spoken to me at times, prompting me to go somewhere, say something, do
a certain thing. The Scriptures always will confirm His leading. If a spirit tells you
to do something that the Bible God gave us clearly forbids, then mark it down: this spirit is
not the Holy Spirit. All that is spiritual is not godly.

Consider how the Lord in His word (the Scriptures) talks about getting wisdom in connection with the Scriptures…“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they
that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever”
(Psalm 111:10).

Does it not make sense that if the Bible was inspired by God and preserved for us today, that
we can learn more of His thoughts and gain wisdom by letting His word dwell in us richly?
When we are thinking and taking in His words, the Holy Spirit can teach us wisdom, in providing
God’s point of view in various areas.

What is the longest Psalm, let alone chapter, in the Bible? Yes, Psalm 119. I urge you to read
and meditate on the whole Psalm, so that you may see how blessed and needed the Bible is for
our lives. But we shall look for now at one octate of the 119th psalm.

MEM-
“O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.

We are to love the Scriptures and meditate on them continually.
Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me.

God can make us wise as we keep the Scripture always before you.
I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.

Meditation on the Scriptures will multiply our understanding in other areas.
I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.

It will also open up understanding that perhaps those who came before didn’t completely realise.
I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word.

It can help us to stay away from evil.
I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me.

We can be firm for the truth, because God is our Teacher.
How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

We should delight to take in the Scriptures, the written word.
Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.”
(Psalm 119:89-104).
Godly understanding comes from studying the Scriptures. And when the Spirit has taught us the truth, that which is false will be abominable to us.

SALVATION AND THE SCRIPTURES
God the Holy Spirit even uses the Scriptures to make us wise unto salvation (help us learn how to be saved): “And that from a child thou hast known the holy Scriptures which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Jesus Christ” (II Timothy 3:15).

“Let thy mercies come also unto me, O LORD, even thy salvation according unto thy word”
(Psalm 119:41).

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).

“Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures” (James 1:18)

SPIRIT-FILLED MEN AND THE SCRIPTURES

1. Stephen of Jerusalem
“And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith
and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas,
and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:”
(Acts 6:5).

“And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people”
(Acts 6:8).

Stephen, the deacon, was a man full of faith AND the Holy Ghost. He was led by the Spirit
and was used to work great wonders. And he was wise in the way of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Those who rejected the gospel argued with him but could not withstand his wisdom and spirit.
So they falsely accused Him of violating and blaspheming Moses who wrote the Law down and
God Who inspired the Law. The council took Stephen and questioned him.

“Then said the high priest, Are these things so?” (Acts 7:1)

How did Stephen, the man full of the Spirit, answer? Just peruse his defense (Acts 7), and you will clearly see that he answered according to the Scriptures. He quoted many passages, including Genesis 12:1, 15:-14, Deuteronomy 18:25, Amos 5:25-27, and Isaiah 66:11. It is a message encompassing 52 verses, filled to the brim with the written word of the living God, going through the law and history of Israel, demonstrating that the gospel of Jesus Christ is completely biblical.

2. Peter of Galilee
Peter was a disciple of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle. He was a leader in the early church and wrote 2 books of the Bible. Peter also died a martyr, crucified upside down.

When The Holy Ghost came upon Peter and the rest in Acts 2, and the multitudes were stirred in confusion and wonder, Peter rose to declare the reason for this occurrence and the Gospel. Did he simply say, that the Spirit was enough testimony? Did he rely on miracle alone to affirm the event? Not at all. He backed it up with Bible (Joel 2:28-32; Psalm 16:8-11; Psalm 110:1). He did the same in the next chapter after the lame man was healed (Isaiah 53; Deuteronomy 18:15-19; Genesis 22:18).

In his second epistle, Peter tells Christians to beware being led into error, “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen” (II Peter 3:18). How are we to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord? He gave the answer how to grow in Christ – through His word “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:” (I Peter 2:2).

Peter was inspired by God the Holy Spirit to write about how the Scriptures were written. He gives testimony of what he himself, heard and saw concerning the Person and work of Jesus Christ, his own personal experience. But he goes on to tell of the importance of the Scriptures: “We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts” (II Peter 1:19). Here Peter says, there is a “more sure” testimony. The written word of God is a foundation on which our faith rests. The Gospel is “according to the Scriptures” (I Corinthians 15:3-4). It confirms what is truth and exposes what is not truth.

“Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation” (II Peter 1:20). If we didn’t have the written word of God, then we’d have each man doing what was right in his own eyes, saying, “Well, God told me…” and “But the spirit told me to do it this way…” God didn’t leave us without help. The word of God will make sure the leading of the Spirit of God. We need to take Him at His word. The last verse shows that the Scriptures were not written because some men thought of some profound things that they wanted to pass down: “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost” (II Peter 1:21).

3. Paul of Tarsus
Paul is one of the greatest, most spirit-filled men of the New Testament church.
This apostle, missionary, evangelist, and martyr was the instrument to used by
the Spirit to write most of the books of the New Testament:

Matthew – 1
Mark – 1
Luke – 2
John – 5
Paul – 14 (counting Hebrews)
James – 1
Peter – 2
Jude – 1

Yet, when this mighty man in the Spirit was preaching in Berea, the people
there didn’t just take his word for it, but checked his preaching and teaching
by the Scriptures. Did Paul say, “Hey! You don’t have to make sure it is
biblical! Doesn’t the Spirit speak by me? Just go by what the Spirit bears
witness to your spirits”? No, he didn’t! These are the words describing these
“biblical” thinkers: “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that
they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the Scriptures
daily, whether those things were so”
(Acts 17:11)

In II Timothy, Paul explained that “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” (II Timothy 3:16). The Scripture were given by God, and to be used in teaching, reproving wickedness, correcting wrong thinking and behavior, and instructing for righteous living. To what end? The next verse provides the answer: “That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works” (II Timothy 3:17). Through the scriptures, the man of God can grow to maturity and follow God with his whole being. It will equip him to do service for his Lord.

Hmm…Paul wrote two epistles to Timothy. What did he have to say about the written word of God?

“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils” (I Timothy 4:1). How amazing it is that the Holy Spirit tell us in His word that in the latter times, some would depart from the faith, giving heed to the leading of “spirits!” Then He gives examples of such, affirming that we can know what is right in that area, “For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer” (I Timothy 4:5).

“Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine” (I Timothy 5:17). The leaders of a church should be laboring in the word and teaching the truths of the faith found therein. They who do should be honored.

“Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound” (II Timothy 2:9). Even when people are bound and kept from being free to reach and minister, the word of God will accomplish its purpose. Why should we neglect so great a weapon at our disposal?

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (II Timothy 2:15). Studying the word of God prepares God’s people for the work, so that we need not be ashamed of what we are doing, for we know it is right. As we study the volume of the Book, God will teach us to rightly divide and use the Scriptures.

“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine” (II Timothy 4:2). We are to preach the word. We should be diligent in knowing the Bible, in order to be ready at any time to present the truth wherever and whenever it is needed.

In his defense speech before Festus and Agrippa, Paul explained that he used the Scriptures to witness. Paul showed that the fundamentals of Christianity were the fulfillment of the Old Testament:
“Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come” (Acts 26:22).
In Rome, Paul used the Bible again to verify the truth of the Gospel:
“And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening” (Acts 28:23).

FINALLY…
Some will claim that you don’t need the Bible. Just follow the Spirit. But the truth is that both walk hand in hand. You see, the Scriptures were inspired by God the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit moved men to pen the words of Scripture (II Peter 1:20-21). Therefore, how can the Scriptures be against the Author?
It is the Spirit that opens the understanding of the written word. The natural man is not able to perceive the full meaning unless the Spirit opens his eyes. “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” (I Corinthians 2:14). The written word of God is the sword of the Spirit. “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:” (Ephesians 6:17). He uses the word to convict the lost of his condition, of sin, righteousness, and judgment. Then the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to the Scriptures makes sense as the way of salvation. The Spirit also wields this word to work in the hearts of Christians and draw them closer to Him. “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12). How then can the Spirit be against the Scriptures, which are His sword?

When Jesus our Lord was tempted, He gave us an example. He did NOT say, “Satan, I am God the Son. The Holy Spirit is upon me. Therefore, I will not do that sin.” He could have said that. But Jesus went right to the Scriptures – “It is written!” Let this mind be also in you and me.

Some say we should only do what the Spirit teaches. But what did Jesus tell us the Spirit would teach?
“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you” (John 14:26). Therefore, the Spirit’s leading and teaching will NEVER violate the words of Jesus, nor the volume of the Book (which are the words of God). Remember that Jesus is God.

Keep in mind that NOT all that is “spiritual” is of the right “spirit.” But if something is truly biblical, it IS of the right “spirit.”

I could go on and on, but this should suffice, and I suggest the true disciple of Christ to dig deeper.

O Heart of Christ, LEAD ON!

One of the most famous and valiant knights of Scotland was Sir James Douglas, by some called “the Good,” and by others “the Black Douglas.” He followed the Scottish king Robert the Bruce and became one of his most trusted leaders. Together, the Scots stood against the English oppressors and their king Edward Longshanks.

In his fight for freedom, Sir James was impelled to leave his castle. The English seized his fortress and held it to strengthen their presence in the land. Douglas determined to take it back. Dressed as simple sheepherders, he and his men intentionally moved their flocks past the castle. As they expected, the English greedily opened their gates and rushed them, intent on chasing away the men and stealing their sheep.

What a surprise it was when they met with hardened Scottish knights and warriors instead of timid shepherds. Douglas’s force took advantage of the English shock and swiftly entered the gates that had been carelessly left open in their haste! Soon the fortress was again in the hands of her master. This bold move reminds me of the verses below…

In that day shall the LORD of hosts be for a crown of glory,

and for a diadem of beauty, unto the residue of his people,

And for a spirit of judgment to him that sitteth in judgment,

and for strength to them that turn the battle to the gate (Isaiah 28:5-6).

The brilliant strategic mind and fierce loyalty of Douglas the Good was a blessing to his king and the people of Scotland. They united against the tyrant “Longshanks” and used the Scottish terrain and ingenius tactics that would give them the advantage.

At the Battle of Bannockburn, the two armies arrayed for battle. Before the clash, the army of the Scots knelt in prayer on the field. Seeing this from a distance and mistaking it for surrender to him, King Edward exclaimed, “See, they beg for mercy!” One of his men answered, “Yes, but they ask it from God, not from us…these men will conquer, or die on the field.” Soon after this battle, Scotland enjoyed freedom from England for a season.

—————————

After the death of King Robert the Bruce, Douglas was entrusted with the heart of that king, which was encased in a silver casket. Later as he was leading an army across Europe, a nearby king pleaded for his aid against the invading Moors that were devastating his people. Sir James Douglas soon found himself and his men in the face of a dread foe, which after much fighting, still overwhelmed the Scottish defenders. Douglas himself was mortally wounded. The noble knight knew he did not have much time left.

There was one more chance of victory. He rallied his company of knights together for one last desperate charge. Advancing, Douglas the Good held the silver case above his head. Then shouting, “O heart of Bruce, lead on!” he flung the heart of the king into the thick of the enemy host. Douglas and his knights galloped into the fray after it. By the end of the battle, the Scots had won, though the heroic Douglas lost his life.

The old shield of Douglas was silver, with three silver stars on a blue chief. To commemorate this last gallant exploit of a great knight was added the red heart of Bruce, later surmounted by a royal crown.

As soldiers in the host of Jesus Christ, waging war against sin, the World, the Flesh, and the Devil, you and I must not lose heart, but cleave to and smite with the Sword of the Spirit, the Holy Word of God(Ephesians 6:17).

Let us not be weary in well doing(Galatians 6:9). By faith let us “wax valiant in fight”(Hebrews 11:34)! Let us ever be mindful of our King, Jesus Christ. Let us shout, “O, Heart of Christ, LEAD ON!”

30 Soldiers of Christ

Thirty Soldiers of Christ

This is a story I wrote, based on an actual account in history, which occurred in the days of the “Pre-Christianized” Roman Empire. I have often been provoked by them, and have enjoyed sharing their story with others. May we consider their testimony…

Kevan Myers
Psalm 119:115

There is still time to win a battle before the sun goes down.

The Roman army was the pride of Rome. They were known for speed and strength. There were legions of them! The generals were known for their brilliance in military strategy and leadership. The men were strong and disciplined. They were loyal to the emperor and to Rome. They were the most powerful and feared army in the world. They were virtually unbeatable.
Now, in one of the renowned legions, there were thirty soldiers who were especially strong, and courageous. They were instant in obedience, powerful in warfare, and steady in service. These thirty men were also what the Romans called Christians. They were believers and followers of the Jewish Messiah, who was crucified, buried and came back to life. They believed he was the Son of God, and that He had died for their sins. And they followed his teachings.

Now, instead of this causing them to be unfaithful to Rome, it had the opposite effect. They were Romans. And Jesus commanded, “…Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s” (Matthew 22:21). They were even more loyal to the Caesar, and showed integrity in their personal lives.
And their General whom they served under loved these thirty men. They were loyal to him, and feared not to take the most dangerous assignments. They were respectful at all times. They were the best men in his legion. They served with all their heart. And they won many battles for the Caesar.
But then came the decree that all soldiers in the Roman host worship the idol of the Caesar. When the general received it, he knew that his thirty best soldiers were in danger. He called all his men together. And read the decree: “All soldiers of Rome shall offer sacrifice to the image of the emperor to prove their loyalty to him. Any who refuse to follow the above shall be killed.”
The men in the army instantly began to take turns offering sacrifice to the image. All, that is, except the thirty Christians. The general pled with them to obey and they respectfully refused to do it. He tried to reason with them, saying that they didn’t need to turn from their faith inwardly, but just outwardly bow to the image. This argument didn’t persuade them. The general, wanting to save their lives, commanded them to follow orders. They again stood and said we cannot. It was the very first time they had ever disobeyed him.
He flew into a rage. Now it was wintertime. The snow covered the hard ground. The army was encamped beside a lake, which was now frozen. The general said, All right! You know the penalty of disobeying the decree. Death! You will remove your armor, you will remove your shoes, and you will march out onto the ice, and you will stand at attention, there until you freeze to death.
Without hesitating, the soldiers began to disarm. Shields were put aside. Cloaks were cast off broad shoulders. Shining helmets were lifted off the head. Breastplates were removed, and belts and swords laid aside. They unbuckled their shoes, and taking them off, stood in only their tunics. The cold wind blew on them, and yet, none wavered. At the command, the thirty men marched out onto the frozen lake, barefoot, and with out protection from the elements. None tried to flee; none made an effort to escape.
As the general watched, they marched to the middle of the lake, and stood at attention, on the ice. And as he listened, they began to sing. And these were their words:

Thirty soldiers of Christ are we,
This we do not deny
Jesus gave His life for us,
And now for Him we DIE!

Their strong voices echoed over the frigid lake, and the General heard every word. The song was sung over and over again.

Thirty soldiers of Christ are we,
This we do not deny
Jesus gave His life for us,
And now for Him we DIE!

For hours they stood out there at attention. The sun set, and the army slept in their tents. But the general didn’t go to bed. He stood by a fire onshore and listened to the song.

Thirty soldiers of Christ are we,
This we do not deny
Jesus gave His life for us,
And now for Him we DIE!

It grew dark, and it got colder. The general clasped his cloak about him, as he still stood, leaning upon his spear, staring into the Flames. The singing was still to be heard, but it was growing fainter, as the warriors on the ice were weakened by the weather. But they stood tall, at attention, even then. And the winter breeze carried their words.

Thirty soldiers of Christ are we,
This we do not deny
Jesus gave His life for us,
And now for Him we DIE!

But suddenly the song stopped. The general, startled, turned toward the lake and squinted his eyes. What was the matter? Then he saw it.
One man was coming back. He was crawled on his hands and knees across the ice, his feet frozen. His comrades on the ice watched him go. The song was not sung. Everything was quiet. He finally reached the shore, and made his way to the image of the emperor. There he bowed down and offered to it, and went into his tent.
The general saw all this. Then he turned back to the line of men on the ice. They stood at attention still, but no song came from their lips. There weren’t thirty of them anymore.
The general thought of how these same men had fought valiantly in battle; how they were the best men in the legion; how they had often witnessed to him of the gospel of Jesus Christ; how they had never disregarded his orders until now.
Suddenly, he threw down his spear. He removed his cloak and his armor. He took off his shoes, and marched out on the ice. When he reached the line of soldiers, he stood at attention, and began singing.

Thirty soldiers of Christ are we,

The soldier beside him joined in.

This we do not deny

Another and another-

Jesus gave His life for us,

‘Til every soldier in the line sang together the last line.

And now for Him we DIE!

And they did die. In the morning, they were found frozen on the ice.

These men were loyal to their authorities: their general, their country, and to their God.

Evolutionism and What a Christian Needs to Know and Do

This is an abridged form of a letter that I wrote years ago to a person in Europe who wanted to know what to do about the Union’s plan to oppose the spread of the Biblical World-view. I think it would be a good idea for Christians, no matter what their country, to consider what we ought to do in a day when the ungodly join hand in hand, and even the leaders of our own government are pushing to remove exposure to the Bible and foundational principles. Leaders, educators, and every citizen should be made aware of the following facts (sadly many Christians do not realize these):

#1 EVOLUTIONISM IS A DECEPTIVE & DANGEROUS RELIGION, NOT SCIENCE!
There are numerous flaws of evolutionary thinking that are used in this attempt to counteract creation and the Bible. For instance, a major problem lies in the fact that they do not recognize that Evolutionism is also a belief system (For more on this, read my earlier blog, Evolutionism Isn’t Science):

It takes more faith to believe in evolution, than in creation.

I believe that the evidence for creation is so strong, that (according to Romans 1:20) those who reject the Creator and Savior of mankind “are without excuse.” Both Creation and Evolutionism are based on faith. When you look at real science, it actually agrees much better with the Scriptures than Evolutionism. But the followers of Evolution lie and claim their viewpoint is actually science. How ludicrous to say that matter made itself. God tells us He made the universe.

Most of the branches of science that we study today were founded by men who believed in Creation. Additionally, there are many scientists today that also believe in a young earth creation and the Bible. You can look for information on this at www.icr.org and www.answersingenesis.org.

#2 MANY PEOPLE HAVE AN ULTERIOR MOTIVE FOR EMBRACING EVOLUTIONISM!
It has been said that no real scientist would reject creation if it was a reasonable theory. So let’s look at Sir Julian Huxley. He was a grandson of Thomas Huxley,) who is called “Darwin’s bulldog.” Thomas was Darwin’s biggest promoter.

Sir Julian was a biologist, and a world leader in promoting evolution ideals. Don’t you think with that background, he’d have an idea of what he was talking about? The year he died (1975), he was asked in a TV interview, “Why have so many scientists been so quick to adopt Darwin’s theory of evolution?”

Rather than respond with a scientific evidence or logical argument, Sir Julian replied, “The reason we scientists all jumped at The Origin of Species was because the idea of God interfered with our sexual mores.” The source for this quote is called The Collapse of Evolution, by Scott M. Huse pg.157

Julian’s brother Alduous has a very similar quote in pg.270 of his book Ends and Means, “I had a motive for not wanting the world to have a meaning…For myself, the philosophy of meaninglessness was essentially an instrument of liberation, sexual and political.” You can look up the whole quote.

It is a good question. If there is no Creator, where do we find the standard of what is right and what is wrong?

#3 MOST PEOPLE TODAY ARE GETTING INDOCTRINATED–NOT EDUCATED—ABOUT EVOLUTIONISM!
How big the world is can be shown through measurement and science. But evolution is not proven. The fact that the universe has all its stars, comets and galaxies punctures a hole in the “big bang.” If the theory calls for the matter (which they say was Hydrogen and Helium) to disperse evenly, there should be no clumps of anything according to Boyle’s gas laws. No planets, comets, galaxies, stars, earth, etc. This is a big problem for the “big bang.” Evolution struggles against the laws of science. If only they would realize: “There are laws; there must be a Lawgiver!”

Let’s take a closer look at organic evolution: Evolutionists have a problem when it comes to life…

They believe that non-living matter can become living. This was a common belief in the days of Darwin. It was considered that flies spontaneously come from rotten meat, and that rats will arise from piles of dirty rags. But Louis Pasteur, a great scientist in biology and microbiology as well as other men of science disproved that belief. Life comes from life.

Today in public schools, he is lauded and applauded. Spontaneous generation was proven false, the students are told. Then they are taught that spontaneous generation DID happen millions of years ago. Why should we think that something impossible now was possible then? How does that follow scientific reasoning? And they don’t let the students know that Louis Pasteur believed in creation as stated in Scripture and believed on Jesus as Saviour from sin. Pasteur vehemently opposed Darwin’s theory, as did many other great men of science, including his friend Henri Fabre, the “Father of Entomology (study of insects).”

George Wald, an evolutionist and Nobel Prize winner, made this confession:

“I will not accept that [Creation] philosophically, because I do not want to believe in God. Therefore, I choose to believe in that which I know is scientifically impossible, spontaneous generation arising to evolution.”
To be educated, you should look at both sides of the issue and make a wise choice of what to believe. Most people in the world are only exposed to the Evolution viewpoint, and thus are not truly educated. They are indoctrinated, which is different. I believe that when you look at science, it actually points to the accuracy of God’s Word. Louis Pasteur, this man through whose research (in diseases and immunization) hundreds of thousands of lives have been saved, said of science, “A little science estranges men from God, but much science brings them back to God.”

#4 PEOPLE DECEIVED BY EVOLUTIONISM ARE LIKELY TO GET FOOLED IN OTHER AREAS!
Now, we must understand that the world’s system’s stance against Creation and the Bible is not new. There has been a long war against the Creator. People do not want to answer to God, so they deceive themselves and others into thinking there is no Creator (Romans 1:20-22). They get fooled into thinking that:

* – Evolution is part of science.
* – The Bible is not to be considered for public policy.
* – Evolution is needed to be able to fight disease, etc. (how ridiculous!)
* – That real scientists do not believe in creation as stated in the Bible.
* – Christian fundamentalists are dangerous to society.
* – The Bible does not have the answers.

SO, WHAT CAN WE DO?
The best way to get armed in this form of battle is to make sure YOU are ready:

1. Make sure you know the Creator, Jesus Christ (John 1:1-3,12) as your Savior from sin (John 6:47).

2. Stay close to Him, spending daily time in prayer and Bible study. Wisdom comes to those who ask God for it (James 1:5) and search His Word (Psalm 119:98).

Follow the instruction of Psalm 1.

Walk with godly friends (Proverbs 13:20).

Be an example to those around you (I Timothy 4:12).
3. Pray for those who are leaders in your country and in the educational boards, as well as all other people (I Timothy 2:1-8).

4. Equip yourself with knowledge about the controversy. Get good books and videos so you can learn, so that you can share (II Timothy 2:2). You can order many tools from us, if you like. Here are just a couple.

5. What country are you in? It is your duty to make known your stand with those who hold office above you. That is true, no matter what nation you are in. Evil prevails when good men do nothing. The leaders need to know what their people think. If nobody calls, or voices their opinion, the official will think everyone agrees with the said platform. Either that or he/she will believe the public don’t think it is that important.

God is looking for someone to stand in the gap (Ezekiel 22:30). Will you be that man? Do what you can for your own nation. Keep up with your congressmen, get to know them, pray for them, share information with them, show proper Christian respect, and keep them accountable.

6. Speak out. Share with all you can about the truth that evolutionism is actually not science but a religious world view, and let them know about evidence of creation and the Bible. Give them places they can learn for themselves (for example on the web:
www.drdino.com, www.icr.org, www.answersingenesis.org).

Evolutionists, government leaders, etc., are not necessarily the enemy (though they may be working for him). Have as your goal to introduce people to the truth so they will turn to the Creator and be saved from Hell. If one is saved, it is a great victory!

Jesus said to “Occupy till I come.” How are you doing? Are you winning souls? Are you fulfilling the responsibilities God has entrusted to you as a citizen? Are you sharing the truth so people will not go on, beguiled to believe that Evolution is science?

You may be only one, but you are one. You cannot do everything, but you can do something. What you can do, you should do. Will you do your duty with God’s help? (adapted from Evertt Hale’s great quote)

Creation2Christ Christmas Program Underway…

Friends, Family and Supporters,

We’re in Florida, and seeking the Lord for open doors to preach and sing and present the ministry in this section of the country. It seems to be a harder time to schedule meetings. Please pray for this endeavor, as our faith-based ministry looks to God to provide for our needs. Also pray that we will be able to schedule many places for next year.

We are presently in Ocala, Florida. God revealed some very serious problems with the van we drive, and provided our friend Kermit the Mechanic to help us with them. It has been found out that there were so many things cracked, melted and disintegrated, that we would have had a “thermal event” on the way home, and not have ever returned to Pensacola. It is only by God’s mercies that we have been spared and we are so humbled and thankful to Him.

So our time here in Ocala has lengthened, and the Lord is good. He opened doors for us to sing and preach 9 times in the last 8 days! Thank you all for your prayers! We hope to be coming back to Pensacola soon.

It is also our wish to try to do some taping of songs and messages so that we have more resources to offer when we travel. Please pray for the Lord’s will in timing, scheduling, and funds to do so.

The Myers Family is excited to be working on a new project. We’re developing a Christmas program for Creation2Christ to present and to provide for churches and schools to do. Jessica is doing so well as she writes the melodies and lyrics for much of this program, and then we gather around and develop harmony parts to the music. What joy to work as a team! Please pray for God’s blessing on this task, and for the souls of those who will hear it. We are planning to make a CD of this new Christmas cantata in the next few weeks. We are praying that we will be able to present it to churches, schools, jails, and nursing homes in December. If you know of places that might welcome us, please let us know.

Psalm 119:153

There is still time to win a battle before the sun goes down.

This post was written by Nathan Tyler, a close brother, fellow-soldier, and co-laborer in the field. I have read it and found it to be such a clear exposition on this pertinent issue, that I requested and obtained permission to post it for more to read.

I must in all honesty declare that I would NEVER even try to defend the Bible’s account of creation using a compromised, corrupt, and critical perversion, such as is plentiful in these last days. I fear they are spots in our feasts, and cankers in our church bodies.

I can say that I am grateful to God the Author of the Scriptures and the Author and Finisher of my Faith, that He has preserved His words for me in English in the Authorized Version (the King James Bible). On it I can stand and smile at Satan’s rage and face a frowning world, “conquering now, and still to conquer” through His grace!

Kevan Myers Psalm 119:89

There is still time to win a battle before the sun goes down.

     Now, please consider Nathan’s thoughts…

I.  Introduction

The Bible version issue has been a serious controversy for many years now, during which time much has been written to expose the movement of the modern versions (post AD 1611) to dilute and weaken orthodox Bible doctrine. The list of doctrines that are tampered with in these versions is not short and by no means trivial. On this list is the Godhead of Jesus Christ, His blood atonement, resurrection, ascension and sinless perfection, for example. As much as Satan has used Evolution in the past century and a half it should also not come as a surprise that Creationism has also been weakened in these modern versions. While these problems are comparatively not as severe as ones that attack the Trinity, etc., at the same time a Bible believing Christian should take any assault on any doctrine of his Bible seriously. Remember the Lord’s warning at the end of the Bible found in Revelation 22:18-19.

The following is a list of the versions that are mentioned in this article:

New International Version (NIV)

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

New King James Version (NKJV)

New Living Translation (NLT)

New Century Version (NCV)

English Revised Version (ERV)

Revised Standard Version (RSV)

English Standard Version (ESV)

Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Holman Christian Standard Version (HCSB)

The Message (MSG)

These have been selected because of their popularity amongst professing Christians. There are more that could be added to this list.

II.  The Influence of Three Men on Bible History

Origen and Textual Criticism

The differences in the modern versions stem largely from the modernistic bias of Textual Criticism and the minority of manuscripts they favor. Origen had a lot of influence in Textual Criticism as early as the second century. Much of the modern versions’ texts and philosophy comes from the area of his influence in Alexandria, Egypt. He made a Greek Text called the Hexapla which continues to be of major influence in the naturalistic groups who adhere to the theories of Textual Criticism, the more conservative faction of which teaches that the Bible was inspired in the original manuscripts, and since then the original form has been lost. They are currently working on restoring the Bible. It is taught in these circles that the ancient text of the Bible should be handled no differently than any other old book that is being recovered. Of course this theory is absolutely void of any practical belief in the Bible doctrine of preservation as declared in Psalm 12:6-7, Isaiah 40:8, Matthew 5:18, Matthew 24:35, etc.

Origen was one of the earliest and most influential Textual Critics. Among the many false doctrines he held, perhaps the worst was his allegorical interpretation of the Scripture. He mocked the notion of the Garden of Eden being literal history, and yet Textual Critics hold him up as a great man of the faith. It is a wonder that fundamentalists respect such an unorthodox teacher as Origen.

Westcott and Hort

In 1881 the Bible was re-translated in England. This version called the English Revised Version was the beginning of the popular modern versions we have today – the ERV and its American counterpart, the American Standard Version, has had great influence on them all. The two most influential men involved in that project were Cambridge professors Brook F. Westcott and Fenton J. A. Hort. These men also were opposed to orthodoxy on a number of counts. They dabbled in the occult through an organization called the Ghostly Guild, they were worshippers of Mary, and they were Darwinian sympathizers who accepted evolution to some degree at least.

Here is what Hort wrote to an acquaintance about Darwin’s book in 1860, the year after it came out. “Have you read Darwin? How I should like to talk with you about it! In spite of difficulties, I am inclined to think it unanswerable. In any case, it is a treat to read such a book.”

“But the book which has most engaged me is Darwin. Whatever may be thought of it, it is a book that one is proud to be contemporary with. I must work out and examine the argument more in detail, but at present my feeling is strong that the theory is unanswerable.” – Life and Letters of Hort, Vol. I, pg. 416)

Like Origen, Westcott did not believe Genesis’ first three chapters were literal history either. On this matter he wrote, “No one now, I suppose, holds that the first three chapters of Genesis, for example, give a literal history – I could never understand how anyone reading them with open eyes could think they did”.

“I am inclined to think that no such state as ‘Eden’ (I mean the popular notion) ever existed…” – “Life and Letters of Westcott, 1903,

Thankfully, even with men like this being so influential in the history of the Critical Text and modern versions, the Garden of Eden is still there. However, creationism is weakened or downplayed in them nonetheless.

Observe the following examples of what has been changed.

III.  Examples of Weakened Doctrine

Days of Creation In Genesis 1:5b the KJB reads, “And the evening and the morning were the first day.” This clearly places the creation at the beginning of time. After all, it is not possible to have a day before the first day. This one verse disproves the Gap Theory, which tries to put a long period of time before the first day spoken of in v. 5.

It is also important to note that the day here is defined as a period of time from evening to morning. This disproves the theory of Theistic Evolution, which asserts that the days of creation actually represent long periods of time, and not literal 24-hour days. This position builds their case on the point that the Hebrew word translated “day” in this passage does not have to mean a 24-hour day. Although the Hebrew word “yom” which is translated “day” here could also mean a period of time, context shows this is not the case here. Nowhere is this word used with qualifying words like “evening”, “morning”, “first”, “second”, etc., when referencing a longer time period.

The New American Standard Bible, which claims to be one of the most accurate of modern versions, and one of the most popular ones translates this as well as vs. 8, 13, 19, and 23 in a way that easily accommodates both of these false, compromising theories. NASB “And there was evening and there was morning, one day.” By this translation the creation week could have taken place at any time. This same reading is also found in the RSV, which is even closer to Westcott and Hort’s first Bible, the ERV, and there is no mistaking what they thought of evolution.

Wild Beasts Before the Sin?

In Genesis 1:25 the Bible tells of God creating the animals. What the KJB translates as “living creature”, or “beast of the earth”, the NIV translates “wild animals.” This reading is more compatible with evolution. There were no wild animals until at least after sin and death came into the world, and possibly not until after the Flood. Hugh Ross, John Ankerburg, and other Old-earth Creationists certainly prefer this reading. The Message, NLT, HCSB, NCV, CEV (v. 24), etc. are similar.

Dragons in the Bible

There are a number of verses in the KJB that mention a creature called a dragon. Although this word is associated with mythology today, it has not always been. Webster’s dictionary of 1828 defines a dragon as “A genus of animals, the Draco. They have four legs, a cylindrical tail, and membranaceous wings, radiated like the fins of a flying-fish.” He also notes that in Scripture it seems to mean a large marine fish or serpent. Three hundred years ago “dragon” would have been a name for dinosaur-like creatures, since the word “dinosaur” was not invented yet.

The word “dragon(s)” is used in the KJB 22 times in reference to a creature that man was clearly familiar with. Since this would have been what dinosaurs were called when the KJB was translated, the Bible clearly teaches that dinosaurs and man lived together. This is not well received by a lot of people, Christians included, because they have been conditioned to accept the teachings of evolution in various degrees. Evolution and the above-mentioned compromises teach that dinosaurs died off thousands or millions of years before man came to be. In most of these passages the word “dragon” has been replaced with “jackal.” The pattern varies slightly from one to another, but by and large you will find this to be so in every major new version. There is no good reason for this – the Hebrew word tanniym (Strongs #8577) means land or sea monster. The word “shual” (Strongs #7776) is the word that is always used for foxes, which is much more similar to jackals than monsters.

Behold Now Behemoth

Many Bibles, KJBs included, will have a footnote at Job 40:15 that tries to say the creature called behemoth is an elephant or hippopotamus, and not a dinosaur. The Contemporary English Version (CEV) goes even further and inserts their commentary straight into the Bible text itself, assuming this passage is about a hippopotamus! The text itself however makes it clear that this animal is not a mere elephant or hippopotamus, but something much greater. Verse 17 is one of the clearest examples of this, which says, “He moveth his tail like a cedar, the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.” This passage shows that the idea that this is talking about an elephant or hippo is wrong. Neither of those creatures has a tail like a tree. The way many modern versions render this passage is much weaker than the KJB. Here are some examples from the most popular ones. NIV: Although the NIV does still compare his tail to a cedar, the footnote for this verse reads, “Possibly trunk.” These footnotes work even harder to suggest that this creature is not a dinosaur-like creature. What this note is based on is uncertain. There is no indication in the Hebrew word “zanab” (Strongs #2180) that it ever means “trunk.” The same word is used in Ex. 4:4, Jud. 15:4, and a number of other places that would make no sense whatsoever if you replaced the translation of “tail” with “trunk.”

NASB: This version translates v. 15 in such a way that it does not say for sure that Job lived together with behemoth. It reads, “Behold now, Behemoth, which I made as well as you; He eats grass like an ox.”

This is quite different from “which I made with you”, as the AV and others say. A Theistic Evolutionist like Hugh Ross who thinks that the days of creation were long periods of time, and that the dinosaurs died long before God made Adam has no problem saying that behemoth was made as well as man, he just does not believe that he lived with man. The ESV basically says the same thing. The ESV even goes so far as to interpret v. 17 as saying behemoth makes his tail stiff like a cedar, which is the opposite of what the Bible says. It is interesting that this verse is being re-worded, since this clause is one of the ones that shows that behemoth is not what the footnotes suggest. Conveniently the re-wording happens to make it so that the comparison of the tail of this creature to a cedar tree does not have to be in reference to size, but just stiffness. Again, the Hebrew does not help us at all to figure out why they would render it as they do – the word translated “moveth” in the KJB (Strongs #2654) means “to incline to,” and implies bending. This is the complete opposite of how the ESV, supposedly one of the most literal and accurate versions on the market, reads. If that phrase sounds familiar, it is because the NASB, NKJV, and others make the same claim, so there is a little competition going on for that title, since it really helps sales.

Jesus Knows His Cetology

In Matthew 12:40 when Jesus refers to Jonah He says he was in a whale. (Jonah 1:17 calls it a big fish.) Modern-day scoffers are quick to point out that whales are mammals, not fish. A lot of Christians also believe that the KJB translation is inaccurate as well, not so much for that reason, but because of more naturalistic reasoning, such as whales are supposedly unable to swallow a man, whales are not from the Mediterranean Sea, etc. The NIV, NASB, NKJV, NLT, ESV, HCSB, MSG, CEV, NCV, etc., all change their translations to read “huge fish,” “sea monster,” or something similar. Apparently they agree with the idea that “whale” is a mistranslation.

However there is no need from a scientific standpoint, much less a faith-based one, to alter this reading. The word translated “whale” is “ketos,” (Strongs # 2785) which is one of the words that the modern biological term “cetology” is derived from. This word basically means the study of whales. So the KJB is the most scientific of all these versions, being the only one that reveals the Maker of whales to be centuries ahead of modern science!

Conclusion

These are a number of things that show the modern versions to be wanting in comparison to the KJB concerning the doctrine of Creation. This certainly is not the only problem either. The purpose of this article, however, was to point out those places which have weakened what the Bible teaches about Creationism specifically. The reader is strongly encouraged to look up the Bible version issue if not already acquainted with it to be informed of the many other severe problems besides this important matter here addressed. Concerning creationism or any other great doctrine of the faith, the KJB truly has no equal in any translation.

Myers in Minnesota October 2009

Dearly Beloved,
Yesterday, the Myers Family presented Dinosaurs Through History to three chapels at Lake Region Christian School, and then again to a group of the senior citizens of the same church there in Brainerd/Baxter, Minnesota. That was our last service in Minnesota this trip. What a blessing!

Many of the high school students remembered us from over 6 years ago when we had been there last, and it was a joy to be able to present our new ministry of Creation2Christ with them. Think of it- equipping those from kindergarten age to adults in their nineties to give the answers about what Bible has to say about dinosaurs through history, all in one day (actually within 7 hours)!

We have now preached and sang in services 17 times in 2 weeks here in the Land of Over 10,000 Lakes. We’ve served in churches, time release classes, nursing homes, a Christian School, and a state prison, as well as in personal witnessing.

The response has been enthusiastic. Hundreds have heard the message. Many believers have come to tell us how they have been encouraged in their faith and challenged to witness.   Many unbelievers have had the seeds sown, and have had the stronghold of the religion of Evolutionism crumble before their eyes.  Pray they will go on to trust in their Creator and take His as their personal Saviour from sin.

We have enjoyed being in this state where we spent time in ministry for some years. It has been wonderful to be here again and see old friends and deliver the truths of the Scriptures from Creation2Christ. Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!

We planned to come up to Minnesota and then get out before the snow arrived, but God wanted us to see white stuff, so He sent a few snows to come temporarily. It was great to see it, but we were concerned, because our tires were so worn, nearly bald. But Christ our Creator and Redeemer does all things well. This past Sunday, a man at a church we preached and sang at walked up and gave Dad a card. he owns a tire business and loves to help missionaries. The next day, he and another tire place owner went together put on all new tires for the van, as a gift. What a blessing from our Great Provider!

Today, we point our big white van south and start to venture homeward.

Please pray for our safety and our health especially. Stanley (the father) has a bad cold, and I (Kevan) still have a dry cough.

Also pray for the Lord to raise up more support from His people so that we may be able to effectively continue and grow the ministry in the future. We are a faith-based ministry, and have monthly support from one church so far, our dear home church, Smyrna Baptist Church. The bulk of the rest of our supply is from God’s grace, through love offerings, and the sales from the resources (materials and tools) we offer.

Myers Family C2C – September Update 2009

Dear Friends, Family, and Supporters of Creation2Christ,

Thanks so much for your prayers and care for our family
and ministry. We appreciate you all so much!

My mother Susan wants to share a praise about her health:
“Thank you for praying about my eyes. I was able to get
help in the week in between Custer and Mitchell and have
been steadily improving. The nutritional doctor told me that
I had a virus similar to Lyme’s disease and gave me pills that
specifically targeted that, along with a recipe for an eye
wash that Bryan made up for me. He told me that it would
probably take several months to completely recover and
that the prednisone had just treated symptoms. I
certainly have improved 100% since taking this route.”

It is good to have Mom’s sight back. She can proof read my
presentations, answer prisoner letters and write on her
education blog again! She is always encouraging us to
press on to new doors of ministry.

Dad is doing well, though he hurt his leg again, walking into
a piece of furniture in the night. It often takes awhile to
recover since he has diabetes. Please pray that the Lord
will heal it up soon. He’s a great dad and leads the family
so well. He is our chief driver, scheduler, packer, and lots
more. He gives me counsel and helps me improve the way
I present truth. Please pray for his strength to continue.

Bryan is doing well, and has begun quoting passages from
the Psalms that he has memorized before I preach. It is
a blessing to learn Psalms with a brother, and work together
as a team.

Jessica is faring very well. It is a joy to have a sister who
watches out for me and the family, who can replace a missing
button, teach a children’s class, sing a solo, or write
curriculum for C2C Clubs. I am so grateful for all that my
family does. I could never do it all.

Near the end of August, my family was in Mitchell, SD,
the home of the Corn Palace. Lighthouse Baptist Church,
a local church, lined up a creation booth for us to work at
the Festival there, which ran from Wednesday to Saturday.

Dad, Mom, Jessica, Bryan, and I worked those days and got
to do a lot of personal witnessing. From 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., the
booth was open to souls walking by.

We profited so much by the experience in Custer earlier
that month! It prepared us for Mitchell in so many ways.
We learned from the church in Custer to make a “magnet.”
We were able to find maps (both United States and World).
We covered them with contact paper and attached them
to foam boards. Lighthouse Baptist loaned us an easel.
As at Custer, they drew so many people to the booth. Most
everyone was interested in sticking a pin in for themselves
and in seeing where others had come from. Also, very few
people refused a tract once they had put a pin in the map.
It was exciting to see how many were open to getting into
conversations that ended in them hearing about the Lord
by the map. That was a wonderful help. Pins were stuck in
by people from every state in the nation except
Vermont and Rhode Island and many from other countries
such as Canada, South Africa, and lots of European and
Asian ones, etc.

There were soon so many pins from the Mitchell area that
local people started not putting in their pin. We solved that
by adding a Mitchell area map! This festival was more of a
hometown crowd than Custer, and many young people came
time and again to the booth and brought their friends and
family to see it.

We had tables with dinosaur toys and models, and a selection
of fossils to attract and teach people. “A little child shall lead
them.” The children would come in, followed by their
parents and we were privileged to share the Bible view of
dinosaurs with so many families.

Posters that gave lots of information on the creation/evolution
controversy were hanging around in the booth for people
to read. They worked well in providing facts and indicators
of the reliability of Scripture. The space we were given at
Mitchell was 20 feet wide and 10 feet deep. Because of this,
more people could fit in without feeling cramped or trapped.
This caused many more people to feel comfortable coming in.
And we had room to do things outside in front because of
where we were located.

There were many things to do for all ages. We did numerous
activities, using science to point to the Creator and Saviour.
This included, but wasn’t limited to Airzookas, the tornado
tube, and the witnessing tools in the combat pack, like the
Ring and Chain. The Ring and Chain was the favorite.
Hundreds of people were exposed to it, and heard the Gospel
through it. So many returned again and again to try it again,
to bring their friends to see, and to learn more things, like
how to shoot a rubberband the scientific way, or how to tie a
knot in a rope with one hand in less than two seconds!
And each of these things were used to open opportunities to
plant a seed, and share truth from the Bible.

A good number of carnival workers stopped and came in to
see our booth. We shared with them about creation and the
Gospel too. Several of them came back to talk with us again.
Some bought things like the Ring and Chain :) .

It is phenomenal to think, moreover, how many people received
tracts. It’s going to be exciting to find out in glory how many
lives were changed through the tracts, witnessing, posters,
etc. God uses us to deliver His message. Oh, that they may
be drawn to salvation through faith in His name.

Again, we were able to do many of our combat pack and C2C
curriculum activities with them so there were new things to do
each time, and some young people said they thought it was
the best booth at the festival. Often, each of us had a group
around us listening and doing the activities ( we were able
to set up different activity stations). Many of them got excited
about God and were really thinking about His creation and
His salvation.

Some people that we met at the fair came to the Creation
Seminar I preached in Mitchell the next week. We thought
that the Christian school in Mitchell might have us do
a session. We were hopeful since the principal came by and
said he would talk to his science teacher about having us
come. Perhaps it will happen another time we are in the
area. We also had many of the vendors and carnival workers
visit and listen and experience our booth. Several asked if
we were going on to the state fair the next week and were
disappointed when we were not. Fairs are such good places
to reach the unchurched, and now we are comfortable with
another approach that works so well at getting an
audience. I hope we can do more in the future.

Beside working in the Corn Palace Festival, and the Creation
Seminar at Lighthouse, we preached at churches in Pierre,
Hoven, and Wagner. It was exciting to be involved in the churches
there in South Dakota.

From there we went to Kansas City, where my sister Jessica
was a bridesmaid at the wedding for a girlhood friend of hers.
It was wonderful to see and visit with old friends and
acquaintances that we hadn’t seen in years.

Now in the weeks since the first week of September, we have
had the opportunity to preach in various local churches,
presenting the Creation/Gospel message ten times and
singing numerous times as well.

Some have asked what our plans for Creation2Christ are.
At this time I believe that God has called us to travel, doing
what we are now. We see the need of taking the message
to people instead of waiting for them to come to us.
We are trusting God to continue to open doors and provide
for our needs. We do need some more meetings in October
in Minnesota and in places on the way back. We also don’t
know what is ahead after that. We are looking to God
to direct us.

Please pray for our health, especially my (Kevan’s) cough
that won’t leave me. It makes it difficult when preaching,
witnessing, and singing.

Pray for open doors to preach in and open hearts to hear
and respond to the gospel.

Pray for the Lord to supply all our needs according to His
will and plan.

In Christ,

Kevan, for the Myers family and Creation2Christ

Cierra’s Story – Testimony from a C2C Club

Dear Myers family

I just wanted to let you know how the Lord is using your curriculum to challenge little ones with the knowledge of the truth.  Thank you for making the material available!!!  It is tremendous…easy to use…and really fun to teach!

I know you have been faithfully praying for our clubs this summer and specifically for Cierra—a 6th grader I met for the first time at our last club.  I don’t want to be amiss and not share what the Lord did in answer to those prayers!

Cierra was quick to raise her hand for counseling after I told the story on Monday evening…she said she wanted to talk…and talk she did…i was overwhelmed. Try as I might to stick to the simple gospel truth, she was all over the place with her questions and “reasons” for why the Bible could not be trusted.  It was as if her reasoning abilities had already gotten in the way of her faith. Which is incredibly sad at such a young age.

She was pretty confused—she quoted television, grandma, her mama, (even a judge that was instrumental in taking her from her mama), the Bible, and a 7th day adventist church pastor—everyone had a different opinion on Jesus being God or just a son, on death, on hell being real, on the Trinity…you name it…she brought it up. I didn’t want to reason with her or get off on rabbit trails but stick to sin and the gospel.  I kept praying Paul’s prayer as we talked: that she would “come unto the knowledge of the truth.”  I knew she was concerned about her own eternity (she told me so) but never seemed quiet or thoughtful enough to consider anything I was saying.

Before I would even get a few words out of my mouth in answer to one of her questions she was interrupting me with an answer of her own.  I just kept coming back to, “But if what the Bible says IS true Cierra, then the Bible is all that matters. That is the bottom line! In the end it doesn’t matter what your grandma believes, what your mama has experienced, or what your grandpa “saw”.  It is what God says in the Bible.  What you will do with the knowledge of your sin Cierra…and sin’s punishment?”

And so Cierra became my prayer target—and thankfully, yours as well!  I could not shake the reality of her eternity every time I thought about her.  God gave me such a love for Cierra that first night, even with all the frustration she brought to our conversation.  I knew God had brought her to our club for a purpose.

I was reminded through Scripture that it is God’s Spirit who pursues man…and that He does it in ways i can not even imagine! God knew the real issues and what Cierra needed! It was my job to pray and present His Word faithfully as long as I had the opportunity. I gave her Bible verses to read on her own and a track to look over—she told me she understood up to a point but was not ready to truly believe from her heart…and did not want to pray.  She was very honest. After talking again with her on Tuesday night I asked her if I could pray out loud for her understanding.  She let me.

Each night after club Cierra would inform me that she would not be coming back—but she always did.  Praise the Lord…

Until Thursday came and went…with no Cierra.  I was sad and afraid I might not ever see her again.  :( Our last conversation had ended with one of the reasons why she couldn’t believe—seems like every scripture I would “try” to leave with her would get overshadowed by how SHE defined it.  That makes for a frustrating counseling session and discouragement… and then “goodbye”!

But God!

Friday night she came in smiling, so happy to be there…right away wanted to know the verse for the day she missed…and even before club started had quoted 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 by memory.  That in itself took me back!  A very different Cierra!  I was surprised by her initiative.  I thanked God for it!  I thanked God that she was back.  I knew the Lord was answering prayer—just like He promises.  All evening I prayed that God would bring her to salvation and allow me an opportunity to talk with her and pray with her.

After the Bible lesson she did not raise her hand for counseling (I was counting on her doing that as it was her usual manner—raise her hand and then do all the talking)…and I thought, “Hmmmm Lord, please give me a chance to talk about spiritual things with her before the night is over!”  The last thing she had said to me on Tuesday was a matter of fact “I just can’t believe something I don’t understand.”  But after the games, the snacks, and the verse quoting Friday evening she asked to go in to use the bathroom.  As I waited for her in the house I thought, it is now or never—there were no distractions to contend with.  She wasn’t going to bring up the subject but I knew I must!

When she came out I asked her if she had had the chance to read the track I had sent home with her?

Yes, she had, but had left it in the car.

Have you decided to believe what God says is true?  Have you prayed and asked Jesus to be your Savior? (There was such a difference in her manner I had wondered.)

No, she had not…but wanted to.

Would you like to now?

YES!

I was very surprised by her quick answer.  Her defensive, somewhat argumentative spirit was completely gone…she didn’t TALK (she always just would talk non-stop) but she LISTENED to me…and I had the sweetest pleasure of kneeling with her and listening to her agree with God that she was a sinner, admit her need, and receive the gift of His Son Jesus Christ (because “you are the only One able to take away my sins”) to save her from her sin and take her to heaven someday.

As I knelt I couldn’t help but be emotionally overwhelmed at what God had done on her behalf.  There is nothing like confusion, a troubled home life, the effects of negative media, and who knows what else to get in the way of a little girl’s decision to accept what God says is true about Himself.  I felt that incredible tension the whole week.

I knew that there was nothing I could say or do of myself that would penetrate her heart and cause her to perceive the things of God.  And so, God taught me better how to pray…and how to not give up.  What I felt kneeling there beside Cierra on Friday evening was the reward “of those who diligently seek Him”: a changed attitude, a quiet, sober spirit willing to believe, and a life changing decision.  And joy!  That is what I saw on her face and sensed in her spirit!  Something she had never exhibited!

God answers prayer.  When you wrestle in the heavenlies over a lost soul you feel the effects of victory with intensity!

Cierra went from always speaking in the hypothetical (it is really hard to carry on a conversation with this kind of dialogue) to an obvious contentment in just believing that what God said was true, was true—child-like faith.  We had a sweet time of sharing together after she prayed…reading scripture and discussing the previous lessons.

Amazing…she just started saying things like “Well, on Tuesday you said such and such…”,  “And on Wednesday, I think, you mentioned this…and I always wondered about that…”, etc…  I was floored because she had never discussed any of that with me before.  (I honestly wondered if she was getting anything from the lessons.)  And as I expounded on her questions and comments she just listened and believed.

“For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).

God is faithful to draw children to Himself.

What an incredible blessing it is to teach others about their Creator and Redeemer…and be present when they respond to the wooing of His Spirit!  There is nothing like it!

Thank you so much for all the time you gave to prepare this material we are privileged to teach this summer!  We have 2 more clubs scheduled!  Wow!  Can’t wait to “get there” and live those stories as well.

Just wanted to share the fruit of YOUR LABOR with you all!
